Red Stick

Theme Day for July 2007 is the color red, so I'm showing you the sculpture that represents "Red Stick". Baton Rouge was named by the French explorer Sieur d'Iberville in 1699, after he saw a cypress pole decorated with bloody animal and fish heads, which served as a marker for the hunting boundaries of two Native American tribes (the Bayougoula and the Houma).

There are currently 100 blogs participating in this theme day:

I agree with Gerald. And I don't know how it connects to the theme. Sorry

Now here's an interesting interpretation : The symbol of your "Red Stick" city of Baton Rouge! I love it! :)

Was that stick ever actually red by the way?

Ahhh....an abstract interpretation of the theme. Cool.

As another participant whose actual photo wasn't red, I applaud your creativity. And I've never been to Baton Rouge, so thanks for the explanation behind the name!
